Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County offers the Senior Roofing Program. Through this program, local low-income homeowners may apply for assistance with necessary roof repairs or replacement. Projects will be limited in number and in the scale of the work.

Qualified applicants must:

  • Own and reside in a home in need of repairs (no rental properties)
  • Reside in Grayson County
  • Be 65 years or older
  • Have income up to 60% of median household income for Grayson County
  • Agree to participate with Habitat on the project. Waivers will include a photo release.  

Roof requirements must include these:

  • The home must be single-story.
  • In most cases, the home may be no larger than 2000 square feet.
  • The home may have no more than two layers of shingles currently.
  • The home must be less than an 8:12 pitch roof.

The homeowner will be required to sign a contract and pay back a portion of the material costs.  The payback portion and payment will be based on monthly gross income. A $50 down payment is required. The homeowner may be permitted up to three years to repay the note.

Required Attachments:

  • Most recent property tax bill or mortgage statement
  • Documentation of all salary/income for all residents in the home
  • Documentation of any other supplemental income or financial assistance received by all members of the household (child support, social security, etc.)
  • Proof of age (driver’s license, government issued photo ID, etc)

Submit the completed application and attachments to Habitat for Humanity. Applications will be reviewed and approved as they are received. Once approved, projects will be completed based on the level of need and on the availability of funding/resources. If approved, you would need to contribute the cost of construction materials (based on a sliding scale of your income) for your project. You would receive a statement of the total cost of the project before work begins.
