It’s a Milestone! House Dedication for House #30
Solomon and Kodi Miller, Hollis and Vivika have been waiting a long time for a home of their own. And what a home it is! Their new Habitat house has all the standard features— open floor plan, full bathrooms, an exterior storage building—plus extras.
This house is built to meet Energy Star standards, meaning that it is 15% more efficient than local standards require; it meets "visitability" standards, meaning that the doorways and hallways are wide enough for wheelchair, walker, and stroller use. Its fiber-cement siding means that termites, rot, fire, and wind won't stand a chance against this house! This is Habitat's 30th house in Grayson County and our 15th Habitat house in Denison.
Come celebrate with this excited family in a dedication ceremony on Sunday, December 21 at 3:30 at 303 W. Bond in Denison.
Amazon + Habitat = Lots of Smiles!
Millions of people are Amazon shoppers! The new AmazonSmiles program provides a way for Amazon to give back a portion (0.5%) of your shopping dollar to the charity of your choice.
Here's how it works: when you want to make a purchase at Amazon, don't go to amazon.com! Instead, go to www.smile.amazon.com. You will be asked which charity you want to support. Type in Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County. Then, shop as usual. Everything else about shopping is the same-- your discounts, free shipping, and any of your other perks. We will receive a check once a quarter based on supporters' purchases. You might want to bookmark it!
A big ATTA BOY to Greg Thomas, Habitat crew chief and recipient of the 2014 Founders Community Service Award. Greg was one of ten individuals at TI worldwide to receive the award because of his extensive service to Habitat for Humanity, dating back 13 years. As part of the award, TI sent a donation of $1,000 to the charity of his choice—Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County, naturally!
TI Deputy Fab Manager Heidi Means, Greg Thomas, Habitat
board president Dan Stenger, and TI Plant Manager Sam Ciani were on hand for the hand off.
Panda Express Delivered!
Earlier this month, Habitat supporters dined at Panda Express and Panda did the WOK! Panda donated 20% of diners' pre-tax purchases and presented a check for $397.00 to our affiliate. That's a lot of egg rolls. Thanks, Panda Express!

There’s almost nothing better than curling up with a good book on a chilly day, especially with one of Diana Cosby’s romantic suspense novels set in medieval Scotland. But one thing even better is building a warm, safe, and secure Habitat house for a deserving family. It gives families more than just a home; it provides a foundation on which to start their future and build their dreams.
Diana’s readers have an opportunity to build such a house. As readers send contributions to Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County, watch the bookshelf fill with every donation. The goal is to fund an entire home - $55,000, in order to start construction on a new house of dreams. Send your donation via PayPal using the Donate button below or donate funds the old-fashioned way—a check works just fine!
Watch the bookshelf at the top of the left-hand column as it fills with colorful books!
Don’t Stop Them; They’re Painting!
Cigna volunteers have signed on for three workdays this fall, and this crew arrived at the warehouse ready to go for off-site painting. Doors, frames, and trim were ready to go in a few hours.
Cast of Thousands
Caterpillar employees showed up en masse to get a good running start on the storage building and to install soffit and siding on Saturday. They made up a significant chunk of the crew of 48 (yes, 48!) people who showed up to help. In the last five years, Caterpillar has helped build ten Habitat houses.
We Are So Proud!
Members of the Board of Directors were pleased as punch to show off the plaque honoring Habitat for Humanity as Social Services Agency of the Year from Grayson County Social Service Association. There were outstanding agencies nominated for this award, and we are so grateful to have been selected.
Raising the Roof in Pottsboro

Women Build Volunteers Paint a New Future
A house in much need of some t.l.c. is getting a face lift, thanks to Women Build volunteers. Mrs. Marilyn Turman, the 92-year-old Denison homeowner, will be safer and more comfortable in her home after Habitat volunteers complete all the exterior repairs: replacing siding, re-caulking, and lots of painting.
Women Build volunteers completed the painting and repairs, and this house is good to go for the next dozen or so years.
Big Smile, New Homeowner!
Natosha DeHorney and her three children enjoyed Christmas in their new home after a whirlwind of a build. More than 250 volunteers contributed about 3000 hours to complete the DeHorneys' home in a record seven weeks. Now enjoy a holiday break, y'all.
Ribbon Cutting the Habitat Way
Judge Horace Groff made quick work of cutting the 2'X 4' to celebrate the opening of Habitat's new tool trailer, purchased thanks to a generous grant from Elias and Hanna Regensburger Foundation. After years of transporting supplies in cars, pickups, vans, and open trailers, the construction crew has a beautiful, well-organized home for the affiliate's tools. No fingerprints, please!
